Mother’s Day & 2018 Orange County State of the County

This week:

Mother’s Day

As the saying goes, “God could not be everywhere, so he made Mothers.”  Today is Mother’s Day, and I can count on a special call, flowers or card from my kids.  In Central Florida, Mother’s Day offers many local options to celebrate –Jazz on the Green at Lakeridge Winery, sipping mimosas at Lake Eola, or taking a stroll in beautiful Leu Gardens. There are also opportunities to give back in honor of mothers, by donating to United Cerebral Palsy’s BETA Teen Connection, a program providing critical support in academics and parenting to young moms.

Looking ahead:

2018 Orange County State of the County

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs is set to present her last Orange County State of the County Address on May 18th.  This final update of her term will likely highlight key strategies, including public safety, affordable housing, transportation projects and jobs/the economy.  Over her eight-year tenure, Orange County has experienced growth and prosperity, with steadily-lowering unemployment and jobs creation that has us ranked 6th best in Forbes for jobs. As the chair of our Regional Workforce Board Consortium, Mayor Jacobs has brought experience, wisdom, and key support to workforce initiatives.
