Wells Fargo Awards Grant to CareerSource Central Florida for Holden Heights Youth Skills Training Program
Up To 60 Youth Will Earn $11 Per Hour Through Participation
Orlando, FL – CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) has received a $10,000 grant from Wells Fargo, in support of its workforce skills training to low-to-moderate-income young adults in the Holden Heights community of Orange County. The grant supports CareerSource Central Florida’s youth program, Career Conextions, with its Holden Heights Summer Youth Internship Program, by providing funding for a weeklong skills training course to kick off the program’s curriculum.
The Holden Heights Summer Youth Internship Program provides career exploration, critical job skills training, valuable mentoring, and wages for up to 60 in-school youth ages 16 – 19 during the summer break. Students will learn valuable career skills, explore career options, learn necessary soft skills, earn $11/Hr. through a seven-week paid internship, and receive meaningful work experience with a constructive summer activity.
“You cannot overvalue the importance of this program and others like it – programs that help us develop and prepare Central Florida’s emerging talent pipeline to enter the workforce with real-world training and work experience,” said CareerSource Central Florida President/CEO Pamela Nabors. “Our local businesses need access to a workforce equipped with the necessary skills and expertise to help them remain competitive. The Holden Heights Summer Youth Internship Program meets the needs of both.”
Studies show that youth who participate in employment experiences while still in high school are less likely to drop out of school, are more likely to enroll in college or vocational training after graduation, and are less likely to become involved in criminal activity. Through innovative programs like the “Workplace Essentials” and career counselors, the Holden Heights Summer Youth Internship Program will train youth to be work-ready, and prepare them for a bright future.
“We are proud to partner with organizations like CareerSource Central Florida,” said Central Florida Community Relations Senior Consultant Candice Simmons. “We know that our long-term success is directly linked to the success of our customer and the communities we serve. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to support our future local leaders, our Central Florida youth.”
