While visiting from Tallahassee, Ken Lawson, the new Executive Director of Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), paid a quick visit to the West Career Center to personally see how we do things in the field. Mr. Lawson was taken on a comprehensive tour of the facility by West’s Career Services Manager, Ryan Ridley and even took the time to personally introduce himself to all members of the staff.
We are undoubtedly in the middle of a digital revolution. The introduction of artificial intelligence, virtual reality and now, autonomous vehicles, serve as evidence of just how rapidly things are changing in the world…and Central Florida is no different.
In just a few short weeks, Orange County will be hosting its annual Florida Simulation Summit (FSS) at the Orange County Convention Center. This year, FSS will be in conjunction with TechMatch, an event allowing small technology companies to meet with high level executives to curate an opportunity to advance business.

Twice a year, our organization provides support at the Central Florida Disability Chamber of Commerce’s Veterans Business Initiative program. The fall program will be kicking off on September 10th through November 5th and is open to veterans, their spouses and family members who are looking to develop and refine their business acumen while establishing a meaningful career.
At the end of June, Our President & CEO was honored with the Hats Off to Success Community Award from Dress for Success Greater Orlando! Pam was out of town at a U.S. Conference of Mayors event so our COO, Mimi Coenen accepted the award on her behalf. This annual luncheon honors Central Florida leaders who are living out the Dress for Success mission. This organization, and all the honorees, are doing amazing things for our community.

Our very own, Mimi Coenen, COO was hand selected by the Orlando Business Journal to provide her insights during their “Doing Business in Lake County” panel discussion. This panel focused on the growing population of Lake County and how we plan to address the need for jobs, infrastructure and housing in the coming years.
MacKenzie Varney had grown up with her father in the military and was quite accustomed to change. However, one stop in Orlando changed her life forever. Her father abandoned her here and she ended up meeting a guy who was all wrong for her. Long story short, Mackenzie ended up pregnant… and alone. That is, until she saw the CSCF light.

The beginning of June marked the official kick-off of CSCF’s expanded Summer Youth Program. With eight different locations and nearly 800 enrolled students, our youth staff had their hands full ensuring these young adults were set up for success during their summer internships.

During the week of June 3-7, we took the time to focus on four central themes that impact the entire organization: High Customer Satisfaction & Loyalty, Talent Solution Consultants, Being a “CareerSourcer” and Value Creation through Relationships. We dedicated each day to deeply discussing specific themes which ultimately led up to our annual All Staff Meeting on Friday.

Our Project Restore campaign has been launched! In partnership with The Group Advertising, we’ve developed an outreach campaign focused on generating brand awareness to evacuees from Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands in the wake of Hurricane Maria. With a multitude of resources available, our primary mission is to get these evacuees placed into full time employment so they can start a new, prosperous life here in Central Florida.

As you may know, our Lake Career Center is in the process of relocating to a newly revamped and reimagined space at Lake Sumter State College. We have been working diligently to ensure a smooth transition and are happy to announce that the new Lake Career Center will officially be open for business on Thursday, May 23, 2019.
Keep in mind this is a soft opening, meaning staff will be moving in and we will be open for business but there are still final touches to be made and our official Grand Opening will be soon to come.
