The Summer Youth Program inspired second-time participant, Keyla, to pursue a college education. Before joining the program, Keyla was unsure about her plans after high school. Growing up with financial hardships, Keyla never thought of college as an option for the future. After pursuing two internships through the program’s Experience Track, she realized she can do more and help her family. During the internships, she gained work experience and learned the soft skills needed to succeed at a job and build a professional resume. Keyla remembers a field trip to the Osceola County Sheriff Department, where she visited the forensics lab and crime unit. She learned how they help families in a unique way and all they do to support her community. She wanted to help in that same way, and she discovered a passion for forensics. “Thank you, CareerSource Central Florida, for helping a kid like me find a better opportunity through education,” said Keyla.
