City of Orlando to Launch RISE Employment & Training Program and Office in Partnership with CareerSource Central Florida

Program Aims to Help Residents Rapidly Increase Job Skills & Gain Employment

February 21, 2022 – ORLANDO, FL — Today, the Orlando City Council approved several agenda items to advance the launch of the new RISE Employment & Training Program, a City of Orlando initiative hosted in partnership with CareerSource Central Florida, to ensure Orlando’s residents impacted by COVID-19 have equitable access to opportunities for job training, coaching and support services to measurably increase their employability.

To accomplish this goal and support residents in need of these services, the city will lease space at 1221 West Colonial Drive, Suite 301 to open the RISE Employment & Training Program Office to provide in-person assistance to connect residents to job training and employment opportunities.

“Education and job training removes barriers and opens doors to opportunity for everyone,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “That is why the city is excited to launch the new RISE Employment & Training Program and Office to ensure we are a city where every resident feels equally valued, equally protected and has a fair shot and real opportunity to thrive.”

The RISE office will be staffed in partnership with CareerSource Central Florida as the region’s official workforce agency and offer on-site connections with the agency’s extensive system of employers, skills training partners and apprenticeship programs, as well as access to scholarships. CareerSource employees will be dedicated to the RISE office to provide complimentary services to residents through career service consultants and business services staff to support area employers.

“The RISE program creates innovative solutions to respond to Orlando residents in need of careers and better career opportunities,” said CareerSource Central Florida President and CEO Pam Nabors. “The program combines the local expertise of the city with the job and training resources of our organization to provide customized solutions personal to each resident.”

Unique to the RISE Employment & Training Program, participants will have access to comprehensive wrap-around services including social services, career assessments, case management, career counseling, job search/placement assistance and basic computer training.

Other benefits of the new RISE Employment & Training Program include:

  • Connections to CareerSource’s network of more than 100 short-term job and vocational training programs that provide short-term training for careers in high-demand, high-wage industries like Healthcare, Advanced Manufacturing, IT/Finance, Hospitality, Construction and Trade/Logistics.
  • Opportunities for residents to have tuition fees covered through federal sources, including city funds received through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
  • Eligibility for City of Orlando residents to receive a training subsidy in the amount of $125 per week to help cover the costs of transportation, housing, childcare and other needs while in their training program.

Orlando employers are also encouraged to connect with the RISE Employment & Training Program to fulfill their workforce needs. Opportunities are available to connect with program participants for employment, internships, apprenticeships, on-the-job training and paid work-experience.

The City of Orlando’s new RISE Employment & Training Program office is expected to open in April 2022. In the meantime, residents and businesses can visit Orlando.gov/RISE to learn more and sign up to receive updates on the program’s launch and office opening.
