Transitioning to a new career often requires having the courage to reach out for help and to overcome adversity along the way. This is exactly what career seeker Lunsa demonstrated throughout her inspiring career journey. As a former Phlebotomist Lab/Nurse Assistant, Lunsa experienced numerous setbacks, including a drastic reduction in her work hours to just 15 per week. She was also a single parent, facing homelessness, and receiving food assistance as she navigated her search for flexible employment.
Despite the challenges, Lunsa was determined to make a fresh start. Seeking guidance, she met with a CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) Career Consultant to go over her interest in entering a Commercial Driver’s Licensing (CDL) training program and jumpstarting her new career. She faced further adversity when she was unable to complete CDL training program requirements at two educational institutions. However, Lunsa and her Career Consultant did not give up and helped her enroll at Roadmaster Drivers School where she was able to complete her CDL training. Lunsa’s determination and perseverance paid off when she was offered a position as a Team Driver at Werner Transportation, allowing her to earn enough money to secure a stable home for her and her son.
Lunsa expressed her appreciation towards CSCF and her Career Consultant for the support she received in finding her new career. “I just really want to say thank you for helping me with this trucking journey. I am loving it so far! I finally got my truck, and I will be team driving. Thank you so much for everything and may God continue to bless you!” said Lunsa.
