Apprenticeships

Diana’s journey through the Teacher Apprenticeship Program is a great example of how workforce partnerships and hands-on learning can change lives.

“I am currently at Goldsboro Elementary Magnet School. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Teacher Apprenticeship Program because without it, I don’t know how I would have been able to go back to school while working full-time and raising my daughter. This program gave me a path that felt possible when becoming a teacher seemed out of reach. It has challenged me, helped me grow, and given me real classroom experience along the way. I am proud that I am the first person in my family to graduate from college. One of the moments I am most proud of is getting to have my daughter there to watch me walk across the stage and receive my diploma. That means everything to me.  I really appreciate the partnership between Seminole County Public Schools and CareerSource Central Florida to support the Teacher apprenticeship through On-the-Job Training funds.”

Devin graduated from Valencia College with an associate’s degree in film technology in December 2019; just before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the film industry and made it difficult to find work in his field. Determined to build a career, not just find a job, he connected with CSCF and discovered the Telecommunications apprenticeship program through the Electrical Training Alliance of Central Florida. The program combines 2½ years of technical training, including approximately 225 classroom hours per year, with 4,800 hours of paid, on-the-job experience, allowing apprentices to work full time while building their skills.

He graduated last fall and is now working as a Senior VDV Technician at Maddox Electrical, with his sights set on becoming a Foreman. Today, he’s also paying it forward by mentoring new apprentices, just as others supported him along the way.
