From Service to success: Connecting employers with highly skilled veterans
Florida is home to more than 1.4 million veterans, and many of them find it difficult to transition from military service to civilian life. LinkedIn’s Veteran Opportunity Report found that 33% of veterans are underemployed, or working in jobs that don’t make full use of their skills and abilities.
Veterans bring valuable skills, experience, and discipline to the workforce. However, employers may not fully understand how to tap into this talent pool and that’s where CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) steps in. CSCF has a dedicated team of Veterans committed to helping fellow Veterans find meaningful careers and partnering with employers to connect them with highly skilled, mission-driven professionals. The team focuses on leveraging their unique talents, creating pathways to employment, and ensuring a smooth transition into civilian life.
Nathan B. is one of those Florida veterans who became a skilled Apache helicopter mechanic in the military but had trouble transferring those skills to his civilian life. He turned to CSCF for resume assistance, interview prep, and career exploration, and soon found a job at a local theme park as a ride technician.
When a Veteran and their spouse visits one of CSCF’s five Career Centers, they receive Priority of Service. Through this model, they receive expedited access to job placement, training, and career development services designed to honor their service and accelerate their transition into the civilian workforce.
CSCF also partners with employers who are committed to hiring those who have served by hosting annual Veteran-focused hiring events such as Paychecks for Patriots, National Hire a Veteran Day, and Hearts for Veterans. These events create one-on-one opportunities for businesses to connect directly with Veterans.
